Aorangi Stadium Redevelopment

The redevelopment of Aorangi Stadium is one of the most significant community projects in Timaru’s recent history. With a total budget of $24.2 million, the project will deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose facility that meets the sporting, recreational, and event needs of our district for decades to come.

In addition to meeting the growing demand for local basketball, netball, and other indoor sports, the redeveloped Aorangi Stadium is already attracting significant national and regional interest. We are delighted to confirm that the South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament will be hosted in Timaru in August 2027.
This will be the first of many major events to come to the new stadium, showcasing South Canterbury as a destination, bringing hundreds of athletes and supporters to our district, and providing a direct boost to local businesses. It demonstrates the confidence that national sporting bodies already have in the facility, even before construction is complete. |
